There’s nothing like a brilliant collection of gorgeous books to complete a library or bookshelf. When it comes to decorating, vintage books introduce a touch of interest and sophistication.

Find single volumes in varying colours, conditions and binding styles to create a varied but beautiful aesthetic. We also love stacking books to create platforms used to lift focal decor pieces on a bookcase or under a silver tray on a side table.

Vintage books are also cost-effective accessories to complete a large built-in wall unit. At The Crown Collection, we love stacking antique books on a side table supporting a dramatic candelabra or set of candlesticks.

    • Due to the nature and age of our items, flaws and imperfections form part of their character. All of the items that we present have been previously owned and may not be in absolutely flawless condition. We include numerous pictures, please check the images carefully.
    • Every effort has been made to correctly document the condition of each item here presented for sale, however condition reports may not be exhaustive and are only a general guide to the condition of the item. Imperfections are often part of the piece’s character and authenticity.
    • We supply multiple photos on the website of each piece however you are welcome to request additional images and/or a video. Please Note: The pictures of the items form part of the description• All measurements are supplied in millimetres and were taken by hand and are approximate; slight variations may occur.
    • Please note that all clocks are sold for their decorative value. We recommend the clock be serviced and restored to working order if required. Not all clocks have weights and/or pendulums and keys. We can refer you to a clock servicing company in Johannesburg or Cape Town should you require.
    • Some of our tea & coffee sets sold are for their decorative value and others are in a condition to be functional. We can assist with a quote for resilvering or polishing should this be required.• Many old cupboards, cabinets, vitrines and chests come with old locks but without keys. Should you wish to have working locks, please enquire.
    • Colours depicted in the photos of items may differ from the actual colour of the items due to many factors including the light and the time of day that the photos are taken.
    • The item photographed does not include any accessories in the picture, unless stated otherwise in the product description.
    • Our onsite restoration centre is able to modify most items and we can quote to alter the finish of most of our items eg darken, lighten, bleach, gild (we hand gild with gold leaf and silver leaf), French polish etc.
    • We have an onsite upholstery centre with a very quick turnaround time and we can also quote for reupholstery and sourcing of fabric if needed.
    • Import duty is not included in the prices reflected online. You may have to pay import duties upon receipt of your order if your order is transported to a country outside of South Africa.• All items are sold on a voetstoots basis and consequently we do not accept returns.
    • Delivery quotes do not include insurance and The Crown Collection is not responsible for any breakages / damages once goods have left.
