Antique Wood Chess Boards

Inlaid wooden chess tables gained popularity during the Victorian era and have become popular additions to contemporary spaces today.

Because antique chess tables were used by the wealthy, no expense was spared in their construction and craftsmanship. The chess pieces were typically made from wood, ivory and bone and were stored in a separate hinged box.

Antique chess tables and pieces are highly collectable items today. Circular or square, an antique chess table makes a wonderful addition to any lounge or study.

Please Note: The pictures of the items form part of the description• All measurements are supplied in millimetres and were taken by hand and are approximate; slight variations may occur.
    • Please note that all clocks are sold for their decorative value. We recommend the clock be serviced and restored to working order if required. Not all clocks have weights and/or pendulums and keys. We can refer you to a clock servicing company in Johannesburg or Cape Town should you require.
    • Some of our tea & coffee sets sold are for their decorative value and others are in a condition to be functional. We can assist with a quote for resilvering or polishing should this be required.• Many old cupboards, cabinets, vitrines and chests come with old locks but without keys. Should you wish to have working locks, please enquire.
    • Colours depicted in the photos of items may differ from the actual colour of the items due to many factors including the light and the time of day that the photos are taken.
    • The item photographed does not include any accessories in the picture, unless stated otherwise in the product description.
    • Our onsite restoration centre is able to modify most items and we can quote to alter the finish of most of our items eg darken, lighten, bleach, gild (we hand gild with gold leaf and silver leaf), French polish etc.
    • We have an onsite upholstery centre with a very quick turnaround time and we can also quote for reupholstery and sourcing of fabric if needed.
    • Import duty is not included in the prices reflected online. You may have to pay import duties upon receipt of your order if your order is transported to a country outside of South Africa.• All items are sold on a voetstoots basis and consequently we do not accept returns.
    • Delivery quotes do not include insurance and The Crown Collection is not responsible for any breakages / damages once goods have left.
