Silverware

With silver accessories in your decor collection, you have so so many options. Silver is also one of the seven metals of antiquity, retaining its investment value as decorative and practical pieces.

The biggest impact is often made when items are grouped together en masse to bring an elegant touch to any room and a little glamour to everyday life.

In a lounge setting, display wine coasters and an ice bucket with decanters on a tray.  Large champagne coolers and punch bowls add volume as a centrepiece. (Just add fresh flowers for seasonal impact). And of course, you can never have too many candlesticks and candelabras on show, whether on a mantelpiece or down the centre of a dining room table!

THE CROWN COLLECTION SUGGESTED METHODS FOR CLEANING AND CARE OF YOUR SILVERWARE

Cleaning cloths

  • All silverware can be cleaned using a silver polishing cloth that is impregnated with silver cleaning chemicals.
  • Firstly, all dust must be removed from the silverware item. The silver polishing cloth can then be used to wipe the dry silverware item to revitalise the silver shine.
  • These polishing cloths must not be washed, as this will remove the chemical impregnation in the cloth.
  • You may find that after a while your silverware begins to tarnish and the cloth is no longer effective as the cloth has reached its expiry and will need to be replaced.
  • The cloth helps reduce the frequency that the silverware will need polishing. Silverware will however need to be polished from time to time.

Polishing silverware

Many silver polishes are abrasive in nature and their use will, not only remove the silver plating far quicker than expected, but will also scratch the surface of your silverware.

The Crown Collection recommends using a silver cleaning brands such as, Hagerty, Goddards, Town Talk, Savannah Silver Cream, and Wrights but we do not sell any of these products which need to be sourced elsewhere.

Method of polishing silverware

  1. Silverware must first be washed in warm water with some dishwashing liquid to ensure it is clean and free of dust. The silverware is then dried using a soft towel.
  2. Silver cream is applied using a soft cloth or sponge. The quantity of silver cream applied is manufacturer dependant.
  3. The silver cream is left on the surface of the silverware for a short period of time.A minute should suffice.
  4. The silver cream is then removed from the silverware using a soft cloth ensuring that you are polishing the item thoroughly to remove all the tarnish.
  5. The silverware item is again rinsed in warm water.
  6. Dry the silverware with a soft cloth to give it the shine it deserves.
