Boxes & Writing Slopes

The nostalgic allure of Jane Austen’s Edwardian England and writing slopes (aka lap desks) to the beauty of antique wooden drinks boxes and tea caddies – these smaller antique items are a firm favourite among collectors.

19th Century antique writing slopes were a hinged box that opened to reveal a sloping writing surface with compartments for stationery, ink wells and ink pen and were generally used when travelling.

Antique boxes and tea caddies were often made from rare woods such as rosewood or burr walnut with brass hinges and inlays and were for display. For jewellery, stationary or trinkets, antique boxes are the ultimate in decorative and functional storage solutions.
